- I've had a U-1496 Plus for 3 years, and love everything about it
- EXCEPT: it's not V.34 (28.8K) and the software that comes with it
- STINKS!. The modem's will connect with ANYTHING out there. You'll
- have to get a decent software package from another source, though.
- One final thing-- their voice support never became an industry
- standard, so you'll have a hard time finding any software that can
- take advantage of it. (OTOH, nobody else has done anything real
- standard-setting in this area, either.)
-
- As far as value, the market price of a new 14.4 modem ought to be a
- fair guideline. A new modem is, well, new, with a warranty and most
- likely a semi-decent set of software. I doubt that even the fanciest,
- newest 14.4 modem would have as good a connect rate or actually
- transfer data as fast as a Zyxel (provided, of course, that the Zyxel
- is in good working condition).
-
- Hope this helps.
